Throughout the September - May season, we try to choose outdoor activities that are appealing to everyone. The adventures are not competitive in nature. The adventures have included: kayaking/canoeing, hiking, kite flying, bicycle riding, and boat rides. We either bring our lunch or stop by a nearby restaurant. We don't have participants sign up unless it is an activity that must be more stringent in head count. Our slogan is "No sign-up, just show up at the event," and rainout is constituted by already raining or bad outlook during the time of the Adventure.

On October 24th 2015, Carolina Kite Festival. June Dowd took Newcomers on this fun event for kite fliers and spectators alike. On this weekend, the sky fills with kite demonstrations and night kite flying. Most of the action takes place during the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM, with the night fly usually taking place at dusk on Saturday. As long as the wind cooperates, you'll see everything from colorful kites to team flying to mass ascensions of every size and shape kite imaginable.

On August 1st 2015, June Dowd took the Newcomers on their Outdoor Adventure at Duke University Marine Laboratory in Beaufort, NC. The Natural History Resource Center (NHRC)  preserves and disseminates knowledge concerning ecological systems and the distribution and abundance of marine plants and animals. The center consists of an extensive reference collection of marine organisms (the museum), a library of taxonomic references and ecological publications, a large outdoor seawater facility, and a research laboratory designed to facilitate the collection, preservation and identification of marine organisms...

Afterwards we stopped at Sammy's Seafood house and Oyster Bar for lunch.
