I just returned from the Newcomers extended day trip to Asheville and to Biltmore Estate, and I continue to be amazed by the beauty and variety found in North Carolina. We had a great time, made some new friends, and I highly recommend visiting the area if you have the chance. Special thanks go out to Andrea Britton for coordinating the trip and making sure everything went smoothly (she even brought snacks for the bus)! Now that spring has arrived there’s no shortage of activities taking place, and there’s sure to be something that interests you. The Newcomers Spring Fling is scheduled for May 18, and this year it’s a Luau Murder Mystery. Tickets are also available for the Wood Ducks minor league baseball game and lunch on June 16th.
Please note : due to a double booking created by our meeting venue that is beyond our control, we have been required to change our May meeting date from May 9 to May 16th. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Of course, all of our games and sports groups continue to meet regularly. The Outdoor Activities group will visit the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center on May 4, and the Crafting group is holding a workshop on Seashell Decorating and Painting in May 21. And for those moving up to the Alumni Group of Newcomers (AGN), there’s an Ice Cream Party on May 13 at the Harrison Center. Details, sign up, and ticket information for all these events is available on the Newcomers web site.
In addition to all of the Newcomers activities, this is also a good time of year to take advantage of a wide variety of activities throughout New Bern. Check them out on your own, or consider asking new friends you met at a Newcomers event to join you. Among many spring activities, May brings the Annual Heritage Homes Tour (May 3-4), the Plein Air Arts Festival (May 12-19), and the first of the Footloose on the Neuse concerts (May 24).
And while we haven’t had a chance to schedule another group volunteer activity, consider lending your time to help paint a new “New Bern Strong” mural on the building at 328 S. Front Street on April 27, or help with the Craven County Clean Sweep clean-up effort on May 4.
