February ’24 Activities Update

Even though February is a short month, there are still lots of Newcomers activities to choose from. From boating to wine socials, there’s something for everyone. Keep reading for this month’s highlights and check the web page for our calendar of events.

Our next service project will be volunteering at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, Friday, Feb. 9th, from 9 a.m.-noon. We’ll be helping in the warehouse, sorting and packaging food. The food bank is located at 1702 Red Robin Ln., New Bern, NC 28562, just off M.L.K. Blvd, next to Lowe’s.

To join us, please register at February Newcomers Group Service Project.  This is a special link the food bank set up for our event. You’ll need to provide basic info to be registered in their database, and can then sign up for our activity. Please let me know if you have questions or problems. You can email me  at  ecioccio123@gmail.com.

We’re also working to set up an introductory orientation to RCS (Religious Community Services) in March, for those who would like to know more about this vital organization. Stay tuned for details.

I’m also happy to report that the extended day trip to Asheville and the Biltmore Estate is a go!  If you didn’t sign up but still want to join us, there are still a few more days to register. For details visit  Newcomers  Asheville/Biltmore  Trip.

We have a new hiking activity group that’s just getting started, so keep an eye out for future events. And if you’d like to get more involved, the leader is looking for someone to help with scheduling outings and communicating with members. Please let me know if you’re willing to help.

We’re also looking for someone to take over  the nine-hole golf group so it doesn’t have to disband. We could use some help with the dining out activity as well. Finally, a nominating committee is being formed to plan for the upcoming elections for the 2024-2025 board that takes office, July 1, 2024.

We will need a new activities director (since I’ll be moving to the alumni group in 2024-25) as well as several other club officers. If you’re interested or want to know more, please reach out to one of the current board members.

Find an activity that interests you and sign up to meet new people, learn more about your new home, and have fun. You won’t regret it!

Ellen Cioccio, activities director
