NEWCOMERS CLUB OF NEW BERN

PRESIDENT’S UPDATE

November, 2022

The MumFest in October was a great event with live entertainment, arts and crafts, dog performances, and good food!  This was a good opportunity to learn more about New Bern and have fun for the whole family.

The upcoming Thanksgiving holiday is an opportunity to meet with family and friends, but also to reflect on the needs of our community.  At the November general meeting we will have speakers from three non-profit organizations to talk about how they support New Bern.  The Newcomers Club will use this meeting to collect food items for distribution to those in need.  Please bring a non-perishable canned item(s) or boxed good(s).

There will be no general meeting in December, but we will have the annual holiday party on December 10, that you don’t want to miss.  (Please see attached flyer for details and registration form.)

Best Regards,

Peter Blackburn

Vice President

Activity Director Update

November, 2022

Hello Newcomers!

Have you been taking advantage of the many activities offered by the Newcomers club?  Each month, groups of members get together to play Bocce, Bridge, Bunco, Chess, Golf, Mah Jongg, Mexican Dominoes, Pickleball, Scrabble, Tennis, and assorted Table/Card games.  Groups also meet to support each other’s writing as well as to enjoy Wine Socials.  And new groups are organizing for Boating and Yoga.

Recently, the Biking Group rode 23 miles from Minnesota Beach to Oriental and back, the Book Club discussed the international bestseller The Paris Seamstress, the Crafters made pumpkin decorations, Day Trippers visited the Simply Natural Creamery dairy farm and attended Ghostwalk, the Dining Out group ate at Carolina Grill, Photo Walkers explored Cedar Grove Cemetery, Outdoor Adventurers attended the Atlantic Beach Kite Festival, RVers camped at Goose Creek State Park, Tasters sampled wine at Tap That, and the Singles Mingles group met for coffee, brunch, and dinner.  Plans are already underway for November outings to the Mistletoe Magic Holiday Gift Show in Morehead City, the historic New Bern trolley tour, hiking at Martin Marietta Park, painting at The Accidental Artist, and more!  We hope you’ll join us for one or more of these activities and sign up to be notified of future events.

Finally, we do need help to make all of this happen.  We’re still looking for someone to take the lead for the Singles Mingles group, and the Dining In group will be disbanded as of this month unless someone steps up to lead it.

And if you’re downsizing, the Bridge Group is also looking for card tables for their games at the Senior Center—please contact group leader Margot DeLapp (mdelapp@gmail.com) if you have one to donate.
