November Activities

Many of us joined the Newcomers Club hoping to learn more about the fun things to see and do in our new home. But it doesn’t take long to realize that there are also some significant needs in our community. In the next month we’re planning to host our first “service day,” where interested club members spend part of a day volunteering with a local charity.

It will be a great way to learn more about what’s needed locally and the organizations working to meet those needs. Details will be announced at the November meeting and via email. We hope you’ll join us!

We’ve also had a couple of suggestions for new activity groups. Would you be interested in a hiking group, or a group for art/sketching/drawing? You can sign up at the November meeting or send me an email indicating your interest.

After a brief pause, I’m happy to say we have a new leader for the dining out group, so watch for upcoming events and some fun new ideas. Unfortunately, however, we’re having to reconstitute our list of people in the group. We have most of the sign up lists from the past year, but if you’re interested and don’t receive an email about plans in the next couple of weeks, please re-sign up at the November meeting or email Kate Cannon at MaBearKate@gmail.com with your information.

Other activity highlights for November include:

• Don’t forget to sign up for the boating group-sponsored dinner cruise on the Crystal Coast Lady out of Beaufort for a delicious dinner, beautiful sunset views, and a chance to socialize with fellow club members.

  • The crafters will be making holiday wreaths to adorn their doors.
  • The photo walks group will take advantage of the beautiful fall weather to photograph historic homes and fall foliage around town.
  • November day trips include dinner and DJ Music Bingo at Beartown Bistro and a trip to the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park and Festival in Wilson, NC.  And in December, join us for a Christmas Jubilee Matinee Show at the Rudy Theater in Selma, followed by an optional dinner at Sodosopa Restaurant in Smithfield.
  • And of course, this is a great time to join one of our sporting groups and get out and enjoy the fall weather—we have golf, tennis, pickleball, cycling, bocce, and more.

Whatever your interests, I hope you get out there and enjoy!
