I hope everyone had a great summer and that you were able to take advantage of the many fun things to do in New Bern, including our Newcomers Club activities. Summer fun included boat cruises, 4th of July celebrations, a beach cleanup, a tour of the Cherry Point Marine base, downtown walks, sports, games, book club discussions and more.
As fall approaches (even if it doesn’t feel like it) our activity groups are gearing up for more fun in the new club year. Our many sports and game groups continue their regular meet-ups, the book club gets together for monthly discussions, and the creative writers are back putting pen to paper. In addition, our groups have already scheduled a wide variety of events, including:
- – a sunset Photo Walk
- – a Tastings meet and greet and a return of our Wine Socials
- – an Outdoor Adventures trip to the kite festival
- – a Day Trip to the Sea Turtle Rescue & Rehab Center as well as forming a Newcomers team (or teams) for the Historical Society History Quest
- – a boating safety class and Boating get togethers
- – Crafting air fern terrariums, Thanksgiving silk flower centerpieces, and holiday wreaths
- – several Singles Mingles get togethers and trips, including a trolley tour and Oktoberfest
Of course, if you still don’t see anything you like, you can start a new activity group—let me know and we can work together to set it up. And while we currently have leaders for most of these groups, think about volunteering to lead or co-lead your favorite activity, so that we can continue to offer these opportunities. In particular, we still need one or more persons to step up to lead the Singles Mingles group and the Dining Out group—please let me know if you can help
Whatever your interests, you’re sure to find an activity to enjoy and help you settle into your new home town. Have fun!
