October 2024 Newcomers and Alumni Photo Walk

3:00 p.m, Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, at the

Historic Cedar Grover Cemetery in New Bern

Please join us Tuesday, October 22, 2024, for the first photo walk of the 2024-25 year at historic Cedar Grove Cemetery in New Bern. 

We will meet under the tall arch entrance to the cemetery, located on Queen Street across from the St. Peter AME Zion Church.

All Newcomers Club members and Alumni Group members are invited. This group is open to all skills levels and cameras, including D-SLRs and phone cameras!

The activity is lead by a Newcomers  club member who is also  a retired pro photographer.  If you plan on going, please RSVP to Rob at newbernphotowalk@gmail.com no later than Sunday, October 20.  If the event is postponed, Rob will email everyone who has RSVP’d. Thank you!

The cemetery, which is the final resting place for many notables, including the inventor of Pepsi, has many great photo opportunities. We hope to see you October 22. This event typically lasts anywhere from an hour to 90 minutes and involves as much walking as you are comfortable with.

What are Photo Walks?

Join retired photojournalist and Newcomers Club member Rob  for a monthly  gathering of newcomers who love photography for a photo walk during which we will explore a variety of locations in and around New Bern.

Rob will point out good photo opportunities and help other members with technique and feedback when they request it. This activity is open to members with any type cameras (including cell phones.) Please email Rob at newbernphotowalk@gmail.com with any questions or suggestions for future walks or if you would like to be added to the Photo Walks mailing list.

Attention all photo enthusiasts: the Newcomers and Alumni Photo Walk will rev up with a pre-Halloween walk of Historic Cedar Grove cemetery in October. To join retired photojournalist and Newcomers Club member Rob for this monthly gathering, please email Rob at newbernphotowalk@gmail.com and you will be the first to find out when the October walk will take place!  All cameras are welcome. Photowalk is a great way to see great photo ops, make new friends and learn more about our area.

Looking Back on Year Two Of Photo Walks

Thank you to everyone who took part in all or some of our nine photo walks held in the 2023-24 Newcomers club Year.

Our photo walkers took some terrific photos during the walk. Below is a slide show of photos taken during our May Walk in the New Bern Historic Battlefield Park.

Currently there are no walks scheduled over the summer but if that changes we will announce it here and email everyone who has signed up. Look for our next regularly scheduled Photo Walk to take place in either late September 2024 or early October!

May 2024 Photo Walk- New Bern Battlefield Park, 300 Battlefield Trail,Tuesday, May 21, 2024

The historic park is a great place to photograph nature and wildlife. We will meet in the covered pavilion in the parking lot of the park at 4:00p.m.

Flower Photography : Gardens Around , Tryon Palace, New Bern

New Bern is graced by some of the most photogenic gardens in the area, many located on the historic grounds outside the gates of Tryon Palace.

 

March 2024- Waterfront of Morehead City, NC

The March Photo Walk was held March 22 on the waterfront in Morehead City. We walked the waterfront taking photos of statues, boats and buildings near where the Big Rock is held every year,

February 2024 -Perspective

What's Your Perspective, in downtown New Bern,  Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024.

Our theme was "What is your perspective," a visual challenge to find creative ways to photograph three historic buildings in New Bern. Click on the YouTube video below to view some of the great photos taken during this walk!

January 2024- wildlife and nature at Martin Marietta park

We have put together a slide show of photos taken by the 15 talented Newcomers Club members who took part in our January photo walk at Martin Marietta Park in New Bern, We hope you enjoy it and check back on this page in February for  details on our February walk. Thanks to everyone who has taken part in this activity. This walk centered on the abundance of birds and other nature readily available at this wonderful park in NEW BERN, NC.
