April Newcomers Activities Update

Now that the weather is warming up, there are lots of New Bern Newcomers activities being planned. If you’ve been meaning to get out and play a sport, we have regularly-scheduled groups playing pickleball, tennis, golf, bocce, hiking, cycling and more.

Or if you’d prefer something indoors, consider bridge, chess, mah jongg, Mexican train dominoes, scrabble, table games, crafting, book club, creative writing, or even wine tastings.

And of course, we’d love to see you at our upcoming “spring fling” luau murder mystery in May and out at the ball field for our trip in June to see the Down East Wood Ducks minor league baseball team in Kinston. Here are some other highlights:

  • The boating group is planning for a full season of events, including getting together for “Footloose on the Neuse” and Friday night sunset kayaking.
  • The crafters will be making watercolor painted baskets in April.
  • The crafters and day trippers will also be getting together to try their hand at letterboxing (similar to geocaching).
  • A day trip is being planned to the Pitt County Arboretum in April.
  • Outdoor adventures will be meeting at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center on Sunday, May 4th.
  • Singles mingles has a trip planned to the Sylvan Heights Bird Park and optional dinner in April, as well as a dinner at Musashi Japanese Steak and Seafood Restaurant.
  • Photo walks will visit the gardens around Tryon Palace, in April, and will explore Wilson, NC, in May.
  • The RV Group is planning a trip to the Outer Banks/Oregon Inlet in late April.

Finally, we do have a few vacancies for activity leaders, so please consider volunteering to help keep these going:

  • After 5 years of planning RV excursions, the current leaders are stepping down and we need someone to take the reins of the RV group;
  • The new hiking activity is searching for a co/assistant leader to help with emails and other task;
  • Singles Mingles has been limping by with temporary volunteers but needs someone who will step up to lead the group and
  • We’d still love to find someone to re-establish the dining out group.
    As you can see, the Newcomers Club offers something for everyone. All you have to do is take the first step and sign up to start making friends and becoming a part of your new community.
