Presidents Message

Good day Newcomers! Thanks for attending all of our meetings!  The Board of Directors is now ready to start the next fiscal year with our incoming replacements, a group of kind, talented, intelligent people. Our final fiscal year June meeting took place on June 12 and included an ice cream social. The guest speaker from the North Carolina Division of Highways gave an update on the Route 70 project.

Your June activities round up, brought to you by your Activities Director, Andy Britton includes:

Boating Group (Joint Newcomers/AGN):  Boaters will meet for Footloose on the Neuse concert on Friday, June 20. There will also be sunset kayaking throughout the summer.  Watch for emails from Dave Yasman for further details.
Day Trips (Joint Newcomers/AGN) Away:  I have rescheduled our visit to the Ellis Planetarium, Health & Science Museum (their projector is working!) in Kinston (401 W Caswell St, Kinston, NC 28504) for Friday, June 27.  We'll meet at 9:45 a.m. for a 10 a.m. planetarium show/movie followed by time to explore the Health & Science Museum grounds. Cost is only $3 per person!  We'll follow up with an optional lunch afterward at Kings BBQ Restaurant (405 East New Bern Rd. Kinston, NC 28504).  This event is open to up to 25 people.  Please RSVP to andybritton@verizon.net by June 20 with your interest in the planetarium and/or lunch.

Crafters (Joint Newcomers/AGN):

We are fortunate to have Twin Rivers Quilting Guild sponsoring Beginners Quilting lessons at no charge. You just need to get registered as there is a limited number of spaces available. Classes will be held weekly at 8:30 a.m. through June 25 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church basement studio, 616  Broad St., New Bern. Contact Sandraegolf89@gmail.com to register, get your supply list, pattern, and to ask questions.  Here’s what your first quilt should look like:

Our next project will be a crocheted Boho basket!  We will teach you how to do a “magic ring” cast on as well as tips on crocheting in the round. The class will be held at the Craven County Senior Center. The date and time are still being determined but once we get confirmation, we’ll send out notifications via email to everyone who has signed up for Crafters (including Alumni members).
