Activity Director Update

September, 2022

We’re kicking off the new club year with lots of activities, both old and new. Activities are the heart and soul of the Newcomers Club, and we encourage you to get involved, have fun, and meet folks with similar interests.

In order to keep these activities going, however, we need people to step up to lead them. Currently, we need leaders for 5 activities: the Book Club, Day Trips (we have a co-leader but need someone to help out), Dining In, Singles Mingles, and Women’s 9-Hole Golf. Please consider helping out with one of these activities—it helps the club and is a great way to meet people and learn more about your new home city.  Unfortunately, if we don’t find new leaders for these activities, the groups will be disbanded until someone steps up.

In the meantime, we’ve also had people suggest several new groups, including Boating (needs a co-leader), Yoga, and Amateur (ham) Radio—please let me know if you’re interested in or have questions about any of these groups

We also have a new “Table Games” activity that plans to meet in the evenings to play “Hand and Foot” (a card game) as well as Poker.  Our traditional sports and games also continue, with regularly scheduled games/events for Biking, Bocce, Bridge, Bunco, Chess, Golf, Mahjong, Mexican dominoes, Pickleball, Scrabble, and Tennis.

There are also events scheduled for the Book Club, Crafters (Wine & Design), Day Trips (Sylvan Bird Sanctuary), Outdoor Adventures (Carolina Kite Festival), RVing (local camping in September and the Biltmore in December), Tastings, Wine Socials, Dining Out, and a Singles Mingles meet and greet in September.

Want to know more? Check the calendar and the Activities section on the Newcomers website or come to the monthly meeting on September 8th at the Harrison Center at 7 p.m.
