Club President's Message

Hello Newcomers!

It was great to see so many of you at our last gathering and to hear from our guest speaker, Mickey Miller to learn about what the New Bern Historical Society has to offer the citizens of our wonderful community!  It was a terrific presentation!  Thanks to Mickey for taking time to spend with us.  Our next Members Meeting will be Thursday, 11 November at the Harrison Center starting at 7 pm; doors open at 6:30 pm.  Our speaker will be Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes.  This will be a presentation you don't want to miss!  Since our meeting will be on Veterans Day, I encourage all who have served or are currently serving our great country, and their spouse or significant other, to wear something that reflects your pride in this service.  Thank you for protecting the freedoms we all cherish!

I asked the question at our October meeting how many folks were having issues with logging onto our website, and several members raised their hands.  We are working to address logon issues, but I want to ensure you understand almost all the information available on our website can be accessed without having to log in to the Members Only section.  The Members Only section allows you to view the Membership Directory and is protected by login for the security of the membership information provided.  The activities page, calendar, monthly updates, and other information are all available without logging into the Members Only section.  We are working hard to ensure this information is current, accurate , and accessible with just a click or two once you access our website at:  https://newbernnewcomers.org .  I encourage each of you to utilize our website to take advantage of all the Newcomers Club has available to assist you in learning about our great community and the terrific folks who live here!

Finally, we have close to 70 members of the Newcomers, Alumni Group, and guests who have signed up to attend our Holiday Party  on 11 December.  Max capacity is 200 people, so please don’t wait too long to sign up to be a part of this annual holiday celebration.  Please remember to bring an unwrapped toy to support the U.S Marine Corp’s Toys for Tots program.  These toys will go to children throughout the local area to bring a smile to their faces and joy to their hearts during this holiday season.  Thanks to all for your generosity.  Please go to our website for additional information.

Happy Halloween to all,

Randy

Activity Director Update

Dear Members:

I start this update with a plea for someone to please volunteer to relieve me as the Activities Director!  How direct can I be?  If you are interested and want to know what the job entails, please give me a call (619-804-5712 (M)) and you can find also the job description and bylaws on our website.  We have a great group of board members and I know you would enjoy hanging out with us😊  Thanks for considering my plea!!!

I am very pleased to announce two ladies have accepted the leadership rolefor the Day Trips activity.  Joanne Orluk and Ellen Cioccio will assume co-leadership of Day Trips and their contact info will be posted on the activity’s webpage of our website the first week of November.  Thanks, Joanne and Ellen for your support!

My wife, Joanie has volunteered to lead the Dining Out activity and her contact information is on the activities page of our website.  An event is planned for Wednesday, 17 at Sake,  starting at 6 pm.  Please go to our website for more information and to sign up.

Per the President’s update, I encourage members to use our website, https://newbernnewcomers.org to access our activities page and calendar to keep abreast of what’s happening in the activity’s world.  You only need to login to the Members Only section to view the Members Directory.

Thanks to all our leaders from both Newcomers and the Alumni Group for their time and support of our 24 activities.  These activities are key to getting folks together and introducing them to our historic city.  This has been key to the success of this Club since its beginning.

Finally, I hope to see you at our next Members Meeting on 11 November and at our Holiday Party 11 December.  Beware of ghosts and goblins, and have a safe and Happy Halloween!
